{"id":56,"date":"2017-10-26T12:25:56","date_gmt":"2017-10-26T12:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bac.dimiter.eu\/?p=56"},"modified":"2017-10-26T12:38:12","modified_gmt":"2017-10-26T12:38:12","slug":"the-mission-of-this-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bac.dimiter.eu\/?p=56","title":{"rendered":"The mission of this site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Bureaucracy would appear\u00a0to be the very antithesis of Art.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Bureaucracy is rigid, rule-bound, schematic, hierarchical, commanding, conservative, predictable, dull, grey, and despised.<\/p>\n<p>Art is creative, free, vibrant, ephemeral , frivolous, elegant, subversive, cultured, colorful, and loved.<\/p>\n<p>Bureaucracy\u00a0<em>is<\/em>\u00a0the very antithesis of Art.<\/p>\n<p>At the very least, in Western culture, art\u00a0is\u00a0<em>constructed<\/em>\u00a0as the antithesis of bureaucracy.<\/p>\n<p>That might explain why there is very little art about bureaucracy. High politics has always been in the focus\u00a0of artistic efforts. More recently, daily life, economic relations, and societal \u00a0inequalities have become common tropes of artistic expression. But not bureaucracy and bureaucrats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is the mission of this website to collect and curate various kinds of works of art and popular culture about bureaucracy, public administration, and civil servants.<\/strong> The scope of the collection is wide in terms of types of works, genres, and artistic mediums &#8211; paintings, novels, operas, photography, films,\u00a0TV series, and so on. But the scope\u00a0is narrow in terms of thematic focus &#8211; apart from interpretations of bureaucracy and bureaucrats, it covers issues of executive government, but not politics per se, public management but not private business relations, \u00a0corruption but not crime and general social delinquency.<\/p>\n<p>The reason to start this website is the belief that such a collection can be assembled only with collective efforts. Works of art about bureaucracy being few and far between, it would take the wisdom and knowledge of a wide and diverse set of individuals to build a comprehensive archive.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feel invited\u00a0to c<\/strong><span class=\"text_exposed_show\"><strong>ontribute<\/strong>\u00a0by suggesting relevant works to include or sharing your interpretations about them.
